The Village Board of Trustees is the Village's elected legislative body. Composed of the Mayor and four (4) Trustees, the Board also acts as the Board of Police Commissioners, the Board of Fire Commissioners, and the Moderate Income Housing Board.
The Mayor appoints a Deputy Mayor from the Board to serve as Acting Mayor if necessary. The Mayor and/or Trustees also appoint the Village Manager, the Village Treasurer, the Village Clerk, and the Police officers of the Village.
The Mayor and Trustees are each elected at-large for two (2) year terms. The Mayor and Trustees serve without salary. Questions regarding the election process, including other possible methods to seek elected office, should be directed to the Village Clerk at 941-4801.
The general power granted to the Village Board of Trustees under Section 4-412 of New York State Village Law provides that the Board:
"shall have management of village property and finances, may take all measures and do all acts, by local law, not inconsistent with the provisions of the constitution, and not inconsistent with the general law except as authorized by the Municipal Home Rule Law, which shall be deemed expedient or desirable for the good government of the village, its management and business, the protection of its property, the safety, health, comfort, and general welfare of its inhabitants, the protection of their property, the preservation of peace and good order, the suppression of vice, the benefit of trade, and the preservation and protection of public works."
The Village Board of Trustees periodically publishes a community-wide newsletter known as "Manor Monthly" and maintains and operates a 24-hour a day cable television channel (Briarcliff Manor Channel 78) to keep residents informed about Village government.
The Village Board of Trustees typically meets twice per month, on the first and third Wednedays, at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 1111 Pleasantville Road. These meetings are televised live on the Village's cable television channel (Briarcliff Manor 78) and are replayed on the regional cable television public access channel (Channel 19/16).
Agendas for each meeting are available for public review the Friday before the meeting and are provided to the local media in advance of the meeting and on this website.
The Board also holds special meetings and work sessions from time to time. All meetings are noticed on Briarcliff Manor Channel 78 and in local newspapers. Interested people should contact the Village Manager's Office at 944-2782 with specific questions or concerns.
