Important Rules Concerning Recycling
RECYCLING RULES & REGULATIONS CONTINUED

 

COMINGLE MATERIALS (CANS, BOTTLES, PLASTIC CONTAINERS):   Will be picked up on your Recycle Wednesday.  Comingle material must be placed curbside in a container no larger than 32 gallons.

PAPER AND CARDBOARD MATERIALS:  Will be picked up on your Recycle

Wednesday.  Paper must be placed curbside and in a container (No larger than 14 gallons), or in a small cardboard box, paper bags or in small tied bundles.

PAINT: Paint in cans must be hardened prior to disposal.  Open cans and harden paint by one of these methods: Kitty litter, Speedy dry absorbent or Waste paint hardener.  Leave lids off and dispose of dried cans in a garbage bag placed at the curb on your garbage pick-up day.

METAL/ELECTRONIC E-WASTE: All metal and e-waste will be picked up Only by

Appointment on your Recycle Wednesday. Bulk metal or large e-waste items require a $30.00 fee for pick up.  The $30.00 fee will be waived if these items are transported to the D.P.W. for disposal by the resident.

HOUSEHOLD MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITY (H-MRF)

 

The H-MRF accepts household hazardous waste and many recyclable items from residents on a year-round, appointment-only basis.  The facility is located on the Grassland’s Campus, 15 Woods Road, Valhalla, NY. Open Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  For further information and to set up an appointment, please call (914) 813-5425.

 


 

OTHER RECYCLABLE ITEMS NOT PICKED UP OR ACCEPTED BY D.P.W.

 

Plastic Bags: Take plastic bags to a local grocery store.

Motor Oil: Take to a service station (free up to 5 gallons per person).

Vehicle Batteries: Take to retailer who sells them (Free up to 2 vehicle batteries per person).

Tires: Take to retailer who sells them (they charge a nominal fee), or H-MRF up to 4 allowed.

Propane tanks:  Take to retailer who sells them (they charge a nominal fee), or H-MRF.

Fluorescent/CFL bulbs: Take to Home Depot or H-MRF.

Automotive Fluids: (Antifreeze, brake fluid, etc.), take to H-MRF, no motor oil.

Chemicals: Take to H-MRF.

Stains: Take to H-MRF.

Fire Extinguishers: Take to H-MRF.
