Please Note: Recycling is picked up by 4 separate Trucks as grouped below:
1. BRUSH/BRANCHES: BRUSH IS NO LONGER CHIPPED ON SITE - ALL BRANCHES less than 6" in diameter must be cut to 5' and tied. Loose brush, must be tied or put in brown paper bags. NO CARDBOARD BOXES. Branches, larger than 6" in diameter, logs and firewood, must be disposed of by homeowner or a private hauler.
GRASS CLIPPINGS: Grass clippings are collected in brown paper bags only and will be picked up curbside on your recycle Wednesday. Thirty (30) gallon brown paper bags are available for purchase at the DPW office on Buckhout Road. Brown paper grocery bags are also acceptable. Grass clippings are composted with leaves.
LEAVES: Spring & Summer Leaves are picked up in brown paper bags only; no trash containers, plastic bags or cardboard boxes. Fall leaves are picked up according to the pickup schedule established by the Village. Typically, pickup begins the second or third week in October and ends the last week in December. Leaves are picked up with a vacuum truck so they should be neatly raked onto the shoulder of the road, not in the road and should be free of sticks. During leaf season, the pickup schedule is available by calling the DPW at 941-9105 after 3:30 pm or by watching Briarcliff Manor Channel 15/49.
2. Items for Special Pickup, By Appointment, On Recycle Wednesday. Please call DPW at 941-9105 to schedule pickup no later than Tuesday of Recycle Week.
BULK METALS: appliances, grills, pipes, metal furniture, and swing sets,empty propane tanks, etc.
FREON-FILLED APPLIANCES: Appliances containing Freon, e.g., air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators and dehumidifiers, require a special permit for pickup on your recycle Wednesday. Permits can be purchased at DPW for a fee of $10.00.
TIRES: (with or without rims) & Car Batteries
OTHER ITEMS: Computer Monitors and TV's
3. CO-MINGLED MATERIALS & PAPERS
MATERIALS SHOULD BE PLACED FOR SEPARATE PICKUP AS FOLLOWS:
GLASS: Recyclable - all clean, colored or clear food and beverage containers. Remove and discard any lids or caps. (NO BROKEN GLASS)
Not Recyclable - china, crystal, glassware, pottery, ceramics, Pyrex, light bulbs, broken glass mirrors, glass containing lead (such as auto and window glass), pesticide/herbicide containers, or any non-food or beverage containers.
PLASTIC:
Recyclable - (All number 1 and number 2 containers, check bottom of container) ie: liquid laundry, dish detergent, fabric softener and bleach containers, cloudy milk, juice & water jugs and soda bottles. Rinse out all containers. DO NOT INCLUDE CAPS OR LIDS. Check the bottom of each item for a #1 or #2.
Not Recyclable - polystyrene products such as foam cups, plates & packing material, plastic utensils, clear plastic wraps and bags, food wrappers, plastic flower pots, toys, or hazardous containers (such as motor oil containers or pesticide containers).
METAL:
Recyclable - food cans, beverage cans, aerosol cans, metal lids/caps, aluminum pie tins, trays and foil wrap. All metals should be clean and free of food. No need to remove labels.
Not Recyclable - oil and paint cans, clothing hangers, and aluminum siding. Containers labeled toxic or corrosive are not recyclable.
4. NEWSPAPER & OTHER PAPER:
Recyclable - all newspapers (including glossy inserts), junk mail, envelopes, office paper, magazines, phone books, stapled and/or glued catalogs, and brown paper bags. Corrugated cardboard should be flattened and tied.
Not Recyclable - Books, wrapping paper, grey cardboard (such as cereal/tissue boxes), and carbon paper.
Other Material:
OIL, ANTI-FREEZE & BATTERIES:
Recyclable - used motor oil and anti-freeze should be brought to the DPW Garage. Car batteries can be left at curbside on your recycle Wednesday (BY APPOINTMENT ONLY) or brought to DPW or returned to the place of purchase.
Not Recyclable - most other batteries (e.g., flashlight batteries) can be disposed of with your garbage. Cooking oil and car fluids are not recyclable.
