Autumn notes from the Conservation Advisory Council
Autumn notes from the Conservation Advisory Council
by John Mickel

Soon the fall color will be invading our trees -- red dogwood and sumac and red maple, gold and orange sugar maples, yellow hickory and elm, maroon oaks.~ We often take this for granted, but did you know that we live in the best area in the world for fall tree color?~ The only area that comes close is Japan with its maples.

This October as the colors light up the landscape, notice the trees that remain green.~ These are for the most part foreigners, such as the Norway maples, magnolias, and such.~Our indigenous species are mostly the colorful ones.  Be thankful we live in such a great spot with such beautiful native trees.
